Kitchenalia - Copper Jelly/Mousse Mould (KU626)
This copper jelly mould measures 9 inches diameter by 4 inches height. The copper has rubbed in places through years of polishing to reveal the tin underneath. I really like how this shows the mixture of metals. The process of close plating with tin was developed around 1830 and this safeguarded against verdigris poisoning from the copper.
This is a ring mould so could have been used for sponges but more likely it was used for making mouses, either sweet or savoury.
There is a 'ring' attached to hang it on the wall. A large kitchen on an estate would have owned several of these and they would make a wonderful display all together, particularly with blue and white china.
