Kitchenalia - Posser (KU654)
This small posser would have been used for hand washing laundry. Possers were used from the 19th through to the mid 20th centuries.
The English word 'poss' means to beat or pound and the word posser derives from this. The use of copper for the dome meant that they could be mass produced. The copper dome has perforations underneath for the water to pass through. This one is marked 'Simplex Baby'. The copper dome measures 6 inches diameter and the total height/length of the dome and wooden handle is 18 inches.
I have one of these in my kitchen which I use as a kitchen roll holder. It could also be used as a toilet roll holder or just display it with other vintage kitchenalia.
