Antique Linens - French Monogrammed Cloth & Napkins (LT129)
It is a rare treat to find a monogrammed tablecloth with all twelve napkins.
The monogram on this set (once on each napkin, twice on the cloth) is stitched in red and the initials 'F D' or 'D F' (of course it wouldn't matter if these aren't your personal initials as I think the appeal is that the monogram is so typically French). If you are 'D' or 'F' and your partner is 'F' or 'D' then this would be fantastic!
The cloth and napkins are pure linen. The napkins are very large (typically French again) measuring 31 inches by 25 inches and the tablecloth measures 75 inches by 60 inches. The cloth has obviously been used more than the napkins as, unfortunately, there are some mends and holes (a small tear to the edge and 3 small holes beside it, another small tear to an edge and 4 small holes grouped together, 3 very neat small mends - see photos). Of course, the napkins could be used with a plain white cloth or some strategic placing of crockery could disguise these 'imperfections'. I think it would be impossible to find an antique cloth with 12 matching napkins all in pristine condition.
This is a stunning set, a complete one-off.
