Antique Linens - Linen Sheet & Pillowcases (LS123)
This set is truly beautiful!
The pure linen sheet measures 90 inches width by 118 inches length so suitable for a double bed. This long length is so that the embroidered top edge would fold back over blankets or quilt on display. Extending 5.5 inches down from the top edge is drawn thread work and the most stunning handworked white on white embroidery of flowers, ferns and leaves. The embroiderer must have been a very accomplished needlewoman/man as I have never seen some of these stitches e.g. where the stamens of a flower are actually partly detached from the sheet.
The pair of linen pillowcases are Oxford style and measure 35 inches by 24 inches (to accommodate a pillow size 31 inches by 20 inches). These also have the same embroidery (one fern or flower in each corner). One of the pillowcases has some extra embroidery where it has been cleverly embroidered over what I should think was a hole (see last photo). This just adds to its charm! These cases have three buttonholes and handmade linen buttons on the reverse.
The pillowcases and sheet are all in lovely condition with no marks etc and have been freshly laundered.
Some people love to sleep under linen as it is so cool in summer. Or perhaps you would keep these for display in a guest bedroom. I am sure the buyer of these will be delighted with them!
