Kitchenalia - Nutmeg Graters (KU317)
A pair of tin nutmeg graters, one is 6.5 inches in length, the other 4.5 inches. The larger grater is stamped 'Made in England' and has pretty markings on the top and back (see photos). The star shape on the back actually slides down to reveal a compartment for storing the nutmeg.
(Nutmeg was a popular spice in the 18th and 19th centuries. As well as being used in the kitchen, gentlemen travellers used to carry nutmeg graters with them on journeys and would grate nutmeg into their ale at wayside inns).
These are great items of kitchenalia either to display with vintage items in the kitchen or, of course, still perfectly useable.
