Kitchenalia - Posser (KU545)
This small posser would have been used for hand washing laundry. Possers were used from the 19th through to the mid 20th centuries and this one dates from the 1930s.
The English word 'poss' means to beat or pound and posser derives from this. The use of copper for the dome meant that they could be mass produced. The copper dome has perforations underneath for the water to pass through.
The green painted handle measures 10 inches (including the hook at the top to hang it up by when not in use) and the copper dome measures approx 4 inches height by 5 inches diameter. There is the word 'Wafax' on the copper. This was used by the company Wades of Halifax, founded in 1928.
This would look great hanging with other vintage kitchenalia in a kitchen or laundry room.
